First featured Tom in April 2003 Joe Taylor picked a Tom Baxter back when Record of the Day first started in 2003. ". It's so easy to sacrifice songs for sound and spirit in this genre", he wrote, ".. but Tom writes beautiful melodies that constantly do more than you're expecting them to". A year later he was signed to Columbia and we supported him with a soundclip for My Declaration. 'Better' was a song from his self-released album where we felt Tom fully realised his potential as a brilliant songwriter, so we picked it twice in 2007 (a second time when the album was licensed to Charisma/EMI). It has since been a Top 30 hit in the UK and Ireland when Boyzone covered it in 2008 but we'll go out on a limb and say the original is, well, better. If an artist continues to produce brilliant songs, we'll continue our support.
