Bittersweet

We say
Big, bold and anthemic, ‘Bittersweet’ is the stunning new single from Cork-based indie-rock quartet Cliffords. Like many last year, we were enamoured by their tales of love and heartbreak on their self-funded and self-released debut EP, ‘Strawberry Scented’. Backed by a melody-rich, guitar-heavy merging of both shoegaze and grunge, Iona Lynch’s impassioned vocals saw them being tipped by Billboard, Rolling Stone, Dork, and Clash, among others, and pack out venues in Cork and Dublin. Released on Soil To The Sun, the new imprint from Relentless Records, the band are back with ‘Bittersweet', the first glimpse of their forthcoming second EP. Recorded at London’s Battery Studios with producer Richie Kennedy (Cardinal, Ride, Libertines) and mixed by Cenzo Townsend, the track is a cinematic, ambitious statement of intent with Iona’s powerhouse vocals soaring through this epic, emotionally charged anthem. Released today (11 March), expect ‘Bittersweet’ to quickly pick up spins on Radio 1 specialist shows (plus, if they are brave, the playlist), 6 Music (Chris Hawkins, Lauren Laverne, New Music Fix), and Radio X, alongside additions to alternative and new release playlists at DSPs. Next up, Cliffords jet off to Australia this weekend to play Dermot Kennedy’s Misneach festival - personally selected by Kennedy himself - before a run of headline shows. They’ll then return to the UK for an April headline tour, followed by a packed summer festival season, including The Great Escape, Bludfest and Latitude. Cliffords are one of the most exciting new bands of the moment and with ‘Bittersweet’, they’re only set to get bigger in 2025.
