Candyman
We say
Our final Ones To Watch for 2025 this week is 17 year old blues sensation Muireann Bradley. It’s been a phenomenal 18 months for the guitar virtuoso and singer hailing from Ballybofey in County Donegal, Ireland. Since releasing her debut album, ‘I Kept These Old Blues’ last December, she has gone from playing in her bedroom to performing on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, opening the main stage at Green Man Festival and playing packed shows in Dublin, York, Bristol, Liverpool, Brighton and London. She has also performed sessions on Cerys Matthews’ Blues Show on Radio 2 and received support on her 6 Music show. She has received praise from The Guardian, Clash, and MOJO (Rising Feature) while at DSPs, she has been featured on editorial playlists at Apple Music and Amazon Music. Now signed to Decca/Verve Forecast, she is set to re-release her debut album on 28 February, which has been remixed and remastered by Kevin Reeves and features the new track ‘When The Levee Breaks’. The album is an astonishing look into Bradley's talent, with her fingerpicking and original interpretations of blues standards, especially considering she was only 15 at the time of recording. Released earlier this week, ‘Candyman’ is the first single to be taken from the remastered album, and if you haven’t heard her yet we heartily recommend you take a listen. Much like how Laufey has brought jazz standards to Gen Z, we can see Muireann being a torchbearer for blues and bringing a new generation to the genre, making her one to watch.
