Christmas Magic
We say
Our final Ones To Watch 2025 this week is 25 year old Icelandic-Chinese composer, singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Laufey (pronounced lay-vey). Inspired by jazz greats and classical masters while possessing a point of view that could only be conveyed by a 21st-century twentysomething, Laufey has caught the attention of Gen-Z on TikTok and tastemakers alike with her heartrending, jazz-tinged songs. Last year, she released her album ‘Bewitched’, which saw her debut at #2 globally on Spotify (setting the biggest Jazz debut in history on Spotify), win a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and earlier this year peaked at #17 in the UK’s album chart. Her following tours immediately sold out and this year has seen her amass over 3.5bn streams, feature in Vogue, appear on late-night TV shows in the US and be named by The New York Times as a “Gen Z It Girl” at the Met Gala. Last month, she released the holiday EP, ‘A Very Laufey Holiday’, which includes ‘Santa Baby’ and on Amazon, the exclusive ‘Christmas Magic’ from the festive film Red One. Making an impact on radio in the UK, ‘Christmas Magic’ has been added to festive playlists at Radio 1, 2, BBC Local network and Jazz FM. Plus, it has entered the midweeks, along with her 'Winter Wonderland' single, this week too. To support the release, she will be in the UK later this month for a Radio 1 Live Lounge Christmas Special, a Radio 2 session for Jo Whiley and to perform on Graham Norton’s show. Alongside all of this, she will also be releasing her debut concert film, ‘A Night At The Symphony’ globally in cinemas and on DSPs. 2024 has seen Laufey build on her amazing 2023 and we have the feeling this is not going to stop and her stardom will only get bigger in 2025.
