Stay
We say
We’re seriously impressed with this sublime offering from Naima Adams. It’s a slice of dub-fused percussive soul from the Rome via D.C.-raised, south London-based artist/vocalist. She was previously an early member and organiser of the collective Steam Down, as well as a backing vocalist for Allysha Joy, Sampa The Great, and Celeste, and a collaborator on Sampa’s ‘The Return’ album. Now breaking out on her solo career, Naima released her debut single ‘Fragile’ earlier this year to praise from Jazz FM, Bandcamp Radio, and the Line of Best Fit, alongside additions to Spotify’s Hangover Detox by block.fm and Fresh Finds: Italia. Written in collaboration with composer and producer Melo-Zed (Yazmin Lacey, Cari), ‘Stay’ is a beautifully soulful and jazz-flecked number. Deserving of additions to soul, new pop and mellow-themed playlists at DSPs, ‘Stay’ would also sound perfect on Radio 1, 1Xtra, and 6 Music. Having been a resident artist at the Roundhouse for 2023/24 and played at this year’s Cross The Tracks festival, Naima will be supporting Sinkane at the Moth Club next Tuesday (5 November).
