Evil Eye
We say
With its haunting melody and evocative lyrics, backed by a moody soundscape, ‘Evil Eye’ is the gorgeous debut single from London-based singer-songwriter Violet Love Child. Taking its cues sonically and lyrically from Leonard Cohen, Mazzy Star and Fleetwood Mac, the track was inspired by a tumultuous breakup during a holiday and captures the bitterness of how a once-beloved destination can be so swiftly and irrevocably tainted. From the opening note to the very end, you will be enthralled by the almost Ethel Cain and Phoebe Bridgers-like vocals of Violet Love Child and the lush production by Brandon ‘Hot Dennis’ Hill at the state51 Factory. Released yesterday (30 October) on 7476 record label, the track deserves additions to new release programming and alternative-pop/Americana playlists at DSPs, along with spins on specialist radio shows at Radio 1 and 6 Music. It’s very early days, but from this beautiful start, we have high hopes for the future for Violet Love Child.
