It’s been a while since we’ve heard a song quite like this and we are very thankful for the bilingual Welsh alt-pop group Ynys for dropping this surreal explosion of upbeat goodness. Drawing inspiration from Sparks, ELO and Talking Heads, ‘Shindig’, lyrically and stylistically, jumps around as catchy piano melodies, dreamy synths and indie guitars collide in perfect harmony. Perfect for spins at 6 Music, Radio 2 and Virgin Radio, the single follows Welsh language singles, ‘Aros Amdanat (Waiting For You)’ and ‘Gyda Ni (With Us)’, which earned tastemaker support from NME, Bandcamp, Shindig! Magazine and 6 Music (Craig Charles, Huw Stephens). Taken from their new album, ‘Dosbarth Nos’, out tomorrow, the track continues to show the band’s musical evolution and creative journey since the release of their 2023 Welsh Music Prize shortlisted self-titled debut album.
