We say

We’ve closely been following the rise of Bristol-based indie outfit Make Friends since the release of their tremendous self-released single ‘Falter’ last year. Having caught the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Introducing Show, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Clash, The Independent and more, with their EP ‘Is This Real’ in 2021, the band have been in stonking form. Working with Bombay Bicycle Club’s Ed Nash (who has taken them under his wing), the band’s newer material draws on not only Ed’s band for inspiration but also the euphoric pop-rock of Phoenix, the synth-driven stylings of MGMT and the intricate tapestries of Everything Everything. Released yesterday (9 July) and premiered on Chris Hawkins 6 Music show, ‘Groans’ builds on those influences to create an infectious indie affair tinged with echoes of The Cure and Cocteau Twins. It’s their best yet and is taken from their forthcoming new EP, ‘Loaded Fun’, out on 13 September. Having performed at Dot To Dot and The Great Escape Festival this year, the band will play The Old Blue Last tomorrow night (11 July), and we highly recommend you check them out.
