It’s been an impressive two years for Leeds-born artist Mackenzy Mackay, who has gone from performing to a handful of yearning ears at London's Troubadour to having an international, multi-million fanbase on social media and over 100m combined streams. Along the way, he has caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 (Artist of the Week/Future Pop), tipped by Ticketmaster as their ‘New Music’ artist of the week, and been praised for his poignant lyricism and pop-rap by the likes of Wonderland, NME, Metal, and more. Released today (7 June), ‘Looking Like That’ is taken from his ‘Life, Love & Upsets’ EP (also out today) and sees him push the bar once again with this chilled pop number. Ahead of possible spins on Radio 1, the track features on Spotify's New Music Friday today. Having supported Jessie Murph on her UK tour at the start of the year, Mackenzy has recently sold out his 12-date UK and European tour and will headline the Electric Ballroom in Camden tonight. Plus, he will also play at the Reading & Leeds festivals this summer. One to watch.
