We say
Growing up under a musical spell cast equal parts by Carole King & Snoop Dogg, Daisy Hamel-Buffa has blossomed into a firm fixture of LA music culture, having featured on Steve Lacy’s 2019 album ‘Apollo XXI’ and Tyler. The Creator’s song ‘Rise’. Last year, we featured her gorgeous dose of laid-back R&B meets alt-pop in the defiant single ‘ur soggy’ under her Daisy World moniker, and now she is back with her stunning debut album ‘Toothpick’. Written and entirely produced in her bedroom studio, the collection of songs sees Daisy showcase her range of influences from the sun-kissed opening track ‘come over’ to the shuffling piano-flecked indie R&B rhythms of ‘the big cool’ and this soul-flecked ode to mental illness. It’s a beautiful album deserving of your attention. Her music has been praised by The Guardian, Fader, Nylon, Office Magazine, Billboard, NME, Crack Magazine and The Line of Best Fit, to name just a few, while Spotify and Apple Music have featured her songs across editorial playlists. We said it before, but it is well worth repeating Daisy World is effortlessly cool, with a sound that bridges genres with aplomb.
