Happy World
We say
We’ve been bouncing around the house to this blast of Abba-inspired ’70s rock pop from rising American singer-songwriter Debbii Dawson all over the weekend and into this week. Crafted with her frequent collaborators and co-writers Alida Peck (Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa) and Zhone (Troye Sivan, Jason Derulo), who also produced the track, ‘Happy World’ blends those classic disco influences with contemporary pop lines to create something nostalgic but fresh and full of hooks. Upon release, the track featured heavily on Spotify and Amazon Music editorial playlists, alongside additions to playlists at Apple Music and Deezer. With its radio-friendly feel, we can see this uplifting earworm being spun on Radio 1, 2 and 6 Music, especially as the Midwest-based artist will be heading to the UK next month to play two shows, one on 15 May in London at Camden Assembly and then the following day at the Great Escape festival. Having caught the attention of audiences with her lush, soft vocals and immaculate blend of pop, folk and country sounds of her debut EP, ‘Learning’, last year, it’s been a phenomenal year, which has seen her sign to RCA and also a co-publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music and Katy Perry’s Unsub Publishing. With a new EP in the works and set to be released later this year, there is plenty more to come from this superstar-in-waiting.
