Write Her Off (WHO)
We say
It’s been nearly two and half years since we last featured west London singer-songwriter Freya Beer and her eerie, gothic alt-pop ode ‘Beast’ from her debut album. Having received tastemaker support from 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Louder Than War, Time Out and more, she is now back with this dark, thrilling tale about the cat-and-mouse game of relationships. Recorded in London with Paul Burnley at The Social and Jack O’Hea at FOLD Studios, the track sees Freya working with long-time collaborators Dave Fidler and Ray Mitchell. With its pressure-point ramping percussion and razored guitar breaks providing the sonic backdrop to lyrics taut with sexual tension, ‘Write Her Off (WHO)’ is a clever, seductive and scathing alt-pop release. Having supported Honeyblood at UK shows and performed at Latitude last year, Freya started 2024 with shows in Manchester, London and New York and next month will play Camden Assembly on 15 March. For fans of Anna Calvi, Nick Cave and Jack White.
