Rust & Blue
We say
It’s been just over two years since we last featured London-based singer-songwriter Marie Naffah and her dose of dream pop, ‘Honey’. Having been tipped by the NME and drawn praise from the Independent, The Line of Best Fit, and Clash, Marie has continued to evolve her sound through releases and explore genres. ‘Rust & Blue’ sees her, this time, dive more into a rockier vibe, drawing on Sharon Van Etten, Big Thief and Bleachers as influences, while maintaining her classic lyricism inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Joni Mitchell. It’s a gorgeous blend, and between her and longtime bandmate, collaborator and producer Robin Breeze they have struck a perfect balance between modernity and nostalgia. Released earlier this week, the track would sound perfect on alternative/singer-songwriters playlists at DSPs, as well as spins at specialist shows on Radio 1, 6 Music and Radio X. Last year saw Marie launch her own monthly residency ‘Little Gigs’ at Tooting’s Mezzanine Bar and perform a sold out show at the Lafayette. Next month, she will play at The Waiting Room on 8 March.
