Way Back Home
We say
‘Way Back Home’ is the bewitching new single from London-based singer-songwriter Ladybyrd. Originally from Buckinghamshire, the classically trained pianist taught herself the guitar while singing with her sisters in the church choir. Inspired by film scores and later artists like Kate Bush, Bon Iver and Taylor Swift, she started to write songs in her teenage years. During the pandemic, while studying for her A-levels, she honed them by writing a song a day for four months. After sending demos out and receiving interest from producers, she moved to London to concentrate on her music career. In 2022, she released her first single, ‘Too Close To Call’, and was immediately featured on BBC Music Introducing, and has since been praised by The Line Of Best Fit, The Sunday Times, Clash, Wonderland, Notion and Metal for her music. Last summer, she started to work with producer and soundtrack composer Ian Barter (Paloma Faith, Dermott Kennedy, Amy Winehouse) on material for her debut album after they clicked working together. ‘Way Back Home’ is the first single from her forthcoming debut album. Filled with drama amidst melancholic undertones and haunting choruses, the track is intoxicatingly beautiful, cinematic and powerful. Watch the video here. We reckon this gem is perfect for alt-pop and cinematic playlists at DSPs and spins on 6 Music and Radio 2, alongside syncs for adverts and TV. Tomorrow night (6 February), Ladybyrd will play at the Camden Club at 8pm. For fans of Lana Del Rey, Florence Welch and Bon Iver.
