Chess
We say
Regular readers will know we have championed Irish singer-songwriter Lyra since the start of 2019 with her gorgeous dark electronic pop offering, ‘Falling’. Now comes her most confident and mesmerising pop offering yet. With its dark rhythmic tempo, haunting melodies and shimmering synths underlying her hypnotising vocals and hooks, ‘Chess’ is a powerful ode (and must listen) about starting out in the music industry and the perils associated with that. It’s lovingly produced by Mark Crew and Dan Priddy (Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man, Freya Ridings) and features today on New Music Friday at Spotify UK. Taken from her forthcoming self-titled debut album (out 26 April), expect to hear this latest release from the Cork native receive huge support across Irish radio after her music was played over ten thousand times last year. Next month will see Lyra tour Ireland ahead of her album release, including two dates at 3Olympia Theatre, and then she will play dates in the UK in May, culminating in a show at Omeara on 8 May. Quite simply, magnificent.
