Church
We say
Next up on our Ones To Watch 2024 is Belfast singer-songwriter and producer Gareth Dunlop. Inspired by Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits and Pink Floyd, Dunlop’s journey commenced at 14, as he strummed his guitar and shared his melodies across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and the UK. His talent was recognised with the Young Songwriter of the Year award in Belfast in 2011, which led to collaborations with esteemed songwriters in Nashville. Since then, he has released two albums, ‘No. 79’ and ‘Animal’, which have earned him praise from The Independent, Maverick, Record Collector, Wonderland and across Irish press and radio. His songs have featured in hit TV shows Nashville, Lucifer, This Is Us, Bones and Suits, as well as films like The Best of Me, Safe Haven and The Visitor. He has supported Van Morrison, Snow Patrol, James Morrison, Stereophonics, Foy Vance and Jeff Beck. This year will see him release his third album, ‘Welcome To The House Of I Don’t Know’ this summer. ‘Church’ is the first release (out Friday) from the album and gives us a warm and welcoming sound with gospel undertones, captivating piano melodies and arena-esque drums. It’s a gorgeous release and offers a tantalising taste of what to expect from his new album, and is the reason why we believe he will have a standout 2024.
