Normal People Things
We say
Starting our final week of Ones To Watch 2024 before Christmas is the fast-rising band, Lovejoy. It’s been another phenomenal year for the Brighton band who, since forming in 2020 around frontman Will Gold, have released three EPs and surpassed 1bn global career streams. This year also saw them achieve two Top 40 UK singles with the RotD-featured ‘Call Me What You Like’ and this indie-rock anthem, along with a Top 5 UK album with their latest EP, ‘Wake Up & It’s Over’. Their brand of big indie rock, laced with British dry wit and some seriously energetic and addictive basslines and riffs, has caught the attention of tastemakers here and in the US, where they were the most-played British artist on Alt radio this year. Here in the UK, Radio 1 has been a keen supporter, while Rolling Stone UK nominated them for the Rising Star Award, and MTV UK has just named them as one of their MTV Push UK & IE 2024 nominations. Plus, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and Deezer have all heavily featured them across their playlists. On the live front, 2023 has seen them play a sold-out UK and European tour, alongside their first North American headline tour in the summer and a series of festival appearances, including Reading & Leeds, TRNSMT, Lollapalooza Chicago, Governors Ball and Rock Werchter. 2023 has seen Lovejoy lead the charge for bringing British indie-rock back into focus. Full-blown mainstream success is just around the corner, making them a One To Watch in 2024.
