VAN GOGH
We say
Today’s Ones to Watch 2024 is the talented multi-hyphenate artist METTE. Like many of you, we were first aware of the Minnesota native as a dancer with Pharrell Williams's dance squad The Baes and as the lead in the video for N.E.R.D. and Rihanna’s ‘Lemon’. But having grown up on the sounds of Anita Baker, James Taylor, Chaka Khan, Pink Floyd, Lauryn Hill, and The Delfonics, music played an important part in her life, and it was while in lockdown in London, away from her family, she was inspired to write music. The outcome was the brilliant ‘MAMA’S EYES, which hit No.1 in the UK club charts earlier this year and has now amassed over 5m streams and won three awards at UK VMAs (including Video of the Year for MAMA’S EYES). Since then, she has released her debut EP ‘METTENARRATIVE’ – a seven-track collection that showcases her raw vocal talent, signature catchy hooks and introspective lyricism. We love the vibe, the beat and the energy of her music, and this vibrant blend of danceable funk and R&B grooves with pop hooks is one of our favs. Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer are all fans, having featured her tracks across editorial playlists, along with tastemakers The Face, NME, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, Fader, Guardian and more. She has also graced the covers of Notion, BEAT and Hunger, as well as performed on Later with Jools Holland and has been played on Radio 1 (Clara Amfo). Alongside her music, she has recently starred in the films Hustler and Barbie and partnered with Alexander McQueen for the Sprint Runner and SS23 campaigns. METTE is an artist who has it all. Talent, confidence and music that is so darn good and infectious that this is only the beginning for this superstar-in-the-waiting.
