Lidocaine
We say
Returning last week from a hiatus following singer Grace Kelly’s recovery from leukaemia, Leeds-based Venus Grrrls dropped this empowering and raspy rock anthem. Produced by Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon/Nova Twins), ‘Lidocaine’ shimmers with twinkling synth motifs amidst powerful drums and energetic guitar lines to brilliant effect. Lyrically, the song named after the anaesthetic drug, sees Grace reflecting on the lasting damage of cancer and the repercussions. Premiered on Nels Hylton’s Radio 1 show as a ‘Future Flavour’, the track went on to feature on editorial playlists at Spotify (NMF, All New Rock, Hot New Bands, Fresh Finds UK & IE, Shockwave (cover)) and Amazon Music (Fresh Rock & Breakthrough Rock), as well as a spin on Radio 1 last night with Alyx Holcombe. Watch the video here and if you want to catch them live, they will be playing at Nels Hylton's Upgrade night at the Old Blue Last in London on 6 September. With previous tastemaker support from Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley, Alyx Holcombe), 6 Music (Steve Lamacq), Radio X (John Kennedy), Spotify and a host of blogs, Venus Grrrls new rebirth is set to see them bring their gothic and ethereal aesthetics to an international audience. For fans of Crawlers, Wolf Alice, Garbage & Yonaka.
