Open Arms
We say
Blending crisp pop production with lush melodies, confessional lyrics and an infectious, folky feel, ‘Open Arms’ is the new single from rising Manchester indie-pop four-piece South By Zero. Originally formed by school friends Matt Bawtree (lead vocals/guitar) and George Burton (vocals/guitar/bass) in their south coast hometowns in 2020, the duo moved to Manchester in 2021 to study at university. They were then joined by Tomas Farrington on drums for the release of their debut EP ‘Behind These Walls’ and then by Emma Halpin (vocals/keys) earlier this year. This poignant dose of alt-pop sees the group explores the misgivings and misdeeds of navigating relationships that draw on the folkier influences of the group for a breezy and charming singalong indie-rock ode. It’s early days for the group, but on the evidence of this song, we can see much promise for this young group. One to watch.
