Lite
We say
Oscillating between bouncing house, trap, and UK Grime with touches of Kaytranada and Skepta, ‘Lite’ is the stonking new release from Downtown Kayoto. We first highlighted the project from Zimbabwe-born, Hull UK-based musician Chiko Chinyadza last November and he has once again impressed us with this latest release from his upcoming EP ‘Learning In Public’ via Other Projects on 6 July. Produced by frequent collaborator, New York-based Jack Laboz (María Isabel, Alice Longyu Gao), the song is “about fomo and feeling so slumped to a point in which you start doubting yourself and your own capabilities”. Through his potent delivery and some top-notch production, this is a track that effortlessly blends genres to create a vibrant and dynamic release. Watch the Joe Howat-directed video here. With comprehensive BBC R1 airplay (Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley), Apple Music/Beats 1 support (Pharrell Williams, Zane Lowe) and press support from publications including Pigeons & Planes, Lyrical Lemonade, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, Colors, Notion, Dork, Guap Mag and many more, Downtown Kayoto is on the precipice of something special.
