L.O.V.E (Smile Please)
We say
Tapping firmly into their ragga-reggae-sunshine roots, Welsh band Skindred are back with this uplifting and vitamin C-infused single, L.O.V.E (Smile Please), produced by multi-award winning producer Brian Rawling (Tina Turner, Cher, Rod Stewart). It marks a rather large departure from the heavier, metal-infused music they started out releasing in the early noughties, but as a band, and this can be heard in their previous release, they channel a huge range of styles from reggae to metal, rock to pop and dub to electro. Taken from their forthcoming new album, Smile (out 4 August), the single is a joyous blast of feel-good pop featuring a skankin’ beat, parping horns and an infectious singalong chorus. It’s one of those tracks that you can hear being played at festivals, beach/pool parties, and from sound systems at Notting Hill Carnival. Released yesterday (17 May), the song is perfect for feel-good and summer contextual editorial playlists at DSPs, along with spins at Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music, Virgin and Radio X. Watch the vibrant and fun Steve Clarke-directed video, full of puppets, here. This summer, the band will be supporting Kiss on their arena tour, as well as performing at a number of festivals (including Glastonbury), before embarking on a UK headline tour in October.
