Premiered by Clara Amfo last night on Radio 1 as her ‘Hottest Record’, Push It Down is the exquisitely brilliant and powerful tale of heartbreak from L Devine. There is a lot to love about this tune, starting with the delicate and heartfelt acoustic guitar melody alongside L Devine’s anguished vocals before it erupts into an unbridled, grungy pop anthem full of hooks. The track marks a new beginning for the vocalist and songwriter as an independent artist. Her early releases saw her amass over 100m streams to date, consistent support and playlists at Radio 1, plus praise from artists such as Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi. Co-produced by Julien Flew, Push It Down is the first release from her upcoming, yet to be named, debut album on AWAL Recordings, and like others, we reckon this fresh start is just what L Devine needs to deliver music she cares about, which is so apparent in the delivery of his pop grunge anthem. Next month, she will perform at The Great Escape festival, and further dates across the country are to be announced soon.
