Hallelujah Kid
We say
We’ve been tapping our feet and humming along to this indie-pop gem from Scottish artist Nicky Lipp since we first heard it last week. Hailing from Leith, Nicky Lipp is the moniker of singer-songwriter Nick Mercer, who back in the noughties was the frontman of Mercury-signed band Sergeant. Since then, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster life for the singer, having returned to Scotland after being an inspirational pastor in a Global Church to start all over again. With its soaring melodies, driving guitars and irresistible beat, Hallelujah Kid embraces this journey and sees Nicky accepting his situation as he moves forward. It’s a brilliant track that would be perfect on pop playlists at DSPs, and plays on Radio 1 and 2. Over the last year, Nicky has been building up a community of loyal fans with a series of shows across venues in Scotland and, with his latest release, is ready to bring his music south of the border. One to watch.
