This One’s For You

We say

Early this year, we were completely taken in by singer, songwriter, and composer Mary Middlefield after we heard this buoyant, indie alternative anthem. Raised in a quiet town in Switzerland, she spent her formative years mastering the violin. At the start of the pandemic, shortly after she broke up with her boyfriend, Mary decided that after fifteen years of the violin she needed a change of direction. During lockdown and influenced by artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Mary dived into songwriting to start her new musical journey. Working with collaborator Gwen Buord, she released her first two singles at the end of last year and then dropped this tune in January – watch the Imogen Harrison (Peaky, Blinders, Luz) directed video here. With tastemaker praise from the Line of Best Fit and Notion behind her, tomorrow (3 March) will see her drop her debut album Thank You, Alexander, and from our early sneak listen, it’s a gem - full of acoustic guitar-led odes, atmospheric sonic tales and upbeat bangers, all wrapped up with lush production. One to watch.
