Released today (9 February), Dark Horse is the second single from London-based singer/songwriter Maria Wilman. Upon turning 50 in 2019, Wilman met the new decade of her life with a sense of urgency and decided to fulfil her dream of making the music that lived inside her. Over the next three years, Maria built up a large body of work, which saw her debut release, Plan B, pick up spins on BBC Radio 2 and Soho Radio. Produced by Colin Elliott (Richard Hawley, Slow Club), Dark Horse swaggers with an almost Pretenders meet early National like feel about it sonically as Maria sings about loss and resilience. Watch the video here. It’s a beautifully accomplished track that deserves spins and support on Radio 2 and 6 Music, alongside key tastemaker press and relevant genre and contextual playlists at DSPs. With its thought-provoking lyrics, timeless feel and lush production this is, quite simply, a gorgeous song that you need to hear.
