Just The Same (feat. James Berkeley & Miller Blue)
We say
Our next Ones To Watch 2023 is singer-songwriter, producer and guitarist Ed Black, aka edbl. Over the past three years, the London-based artist has won fans across the globe for his languid melodies and lo-fi production. During this time, working from his studio, edbl has released music with more than 30 artists, including Kofi Stone, Isaac Waddington, Carmody and more, via his own label edbl recordings. It has seen him release six mixtapes, amassing over 40m streams across DSPs and featured on over 100 editorial playlists at Spotify (including homepage features, +600k monthly listeners), Apple Music and Amazon Music. Notion, Rolling Stone, and tmrw Magazine have all praised his music, plus support on the radio has come from Jamz Supernova (1Xtra), Jo Whiley (Radio 2), Tom Robinson (6 Music), BBC Introducing and Reprezent. He’s an artist we have been keeping tabs on since we first heard his collaboration with RotD-featured artist Conor Albert last year. With that laid-back and soulful sound, as demonstrated in this breezy, neo-soul jammer with Yakul’s James Berkeley and featuring Miller Blue, his catalogue of collaborations has seen edbl craft his own distinct place in the scene and a community of artists pushing each other forward. 2023 is set to see him release another three further mixtapes and open many more doors to this multi-talented artist.
