Have I Ever Been
We say
Starting our new week of Ones To Watch 2023 is emerging singer-songwriter Jasmine Jethwa. The south-east London artist first came to our attention back in early 2020 when we featured her as one of our Compass artists. Influenced sonically by a range of artists from John Denver and Bon Iver to R&B icon Brandy and Fontaines DC, as well as the Hindi songs from Bollywood films she watched with her Gujarati grandmother, Jasmine’s music draws on her experiences growing up in London and her Western and Indian cultures. Her uplifting and mesmerising odes, backed by warm guitar driven pop, have already drawn praise from publications such as gal-dem, Notion, The Line Of Best Fit, and the Independent, received DSP support at Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer, and been played on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing. Have I Ever Been is the gorgeous new single from the 23 year old and is accompanied by a beautiful live session of the track by Orange Playground Films (The 1975, Stormzy) – watch here. On 8 December, Jasmine will play her debut sold-out show at St Pancras Old Church and has just announced she will play London’s Omeara on 12 April 2023. Now signed to Akira Records, it’s been great to see her early promise grow with her last two releases. With a full team behind her, alongside her natural command for melody and harmonies, we believe 2023 will be a breakout year for her.
