Final Dance
We say
Our last Ones To Watch 2023 for this week is the talented London-based singer-songwriter Valencia Grace. Inspired by the strong, powerful voices of Etta James, Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin, Valencia started songwriting in her early teens, and in the first lockdown, at the age of sixteen, began her most prolific first phase of writing. During this time, the Dorset-raised artist quickly caught the attention of TikTok audiences with her postings of covers, amassing over 2.6m followers before releasing a track commercially. Earlier this year, she dropped her debut, It Was You, a strikingly tender ode, followed by the heartfelt Goodbye, the piano-driven There I Said It, and the gorgeous What A Shame. Championed by Dork, Notion, Ladygunn, The Line Of Best Fit, 1883, Euphoria and BBC Introducing, the 19 year old songwriter is back today (18 November) with this rousing and folkish pop-led track. With DSP support from Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, we expect more additions to new pop/mood editorial playlists soon. Having supported Sam Fender on his summer US tour, she has just completed her debut UK and European tour with renforshort. With a knack for writing memorable and timeless songs full of heartfelt lyrics and a back catalogue to show off her vocal talents, we reckon Valencia Grace has a big 2023 ahead of her.
