Paranoia
We say
East London’s Chinwe creates music as a means to make sense of the world around her. Fusing the contemporary musical stylings of Portishead with the rich, jazz filled rhythms of Nina Simone, Chinwe’s brooding soundscapes glitter with rich instrumentals and her warm vocal timbre. Her debut EP Scar Tissue caught the attention Jamz Supernova at 1Xtra and Tom Robinson at BBC Introducing, as well as further tastemaker support from Complex and Wonderland. Released yesterday (9 November), Paranoia is the first offering from her forthcoming second EP, due to be released next year. The self-taught artist adds a new element this time with the softly plucked harp melodies adding a celestial feel to this sublime dose of laid-back R&B and soul number. Perfect for mellow and laid-back editorial playlists at DSPs, we expect to hear this pick up spins on 1Xtra and specialist shows at Radio 1. Quite simply, gorgeous.
