Destiny
We say
With analogue synths wrapped around hush vocals, Jonathan Bree’s new single Destiny is a beautifully minimal affair. Marking the 20th anniversary of New Zealand-based record label Lil’ Chief Records, which Bree co-founded with Scott Mannion, the track features his long-time collaborator, Princess Chelsea, in a ’80s-tinged synth-pop duet of the highest quality. Produced by Bree and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright, today (27 October) sees the release of the single’s accompanying video with his characteristic masked persona performing with Chelsea against a projected synthwave backdrop. Watch it here. Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music have added this gem to editorial playlists, and we reckon it also deserves spins on 6 Music. Having gained a cult following across the world after his viral single, You’re So Cool, went viral (over 26m YouTube views) in 2017, Destiny is sure to keep his fans happy and introduce him to new ones.
