We say
Premiered exclusively by Zane Lowe last night on his Apple Music 1 show as a ‘World First’, this brilliantly smooth and upbeat track is from Scottish artist Aaron Smith. Having made a name for himself with his Sad Boy Pop releases in 2019 and 2020, which saw him top Apple Music and Spotify's new release programming, Aaron has replaced the stripped-back solo piano arrangements with electronic beats and bouncing synths on You. It’s an inspired decision and marks an evolution in sound after a period of personal reflection and re-discovery for the 25 year old. We love the change of direction and its subtle hints to the Weeknd, Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams while retaining his signature honest lyricism. Expect to see this on new release programming across DSPs tomorrow, as well as popping up on new pop/R&B and mood editorial playlists. Plus, don’t be surprised to hear this more on radio airwaves over the next few months - it’s a tailor-made bop for the summer. Watch the accompanying tongue-in-cheek music video, directed by Lille Wojcik, about the introverted singer-songwriter trying his hand at being an influencer in Los Angeles. All in all, this is the introspective summer jam you need in your life.
