Immediately impressing us with its sense of empowerment and dynamic sound is Snakeskin from Lisa Canny. Having grown up in Co. Mayo in Ireland, the now London-based artist, unites her roots in Irish traditional music with her take on pop, R&B and electronica to make alternative folk music. After being discovered in LA by Miles Copeland, she was quickly signed to her first publishing deal and has produced music ranging from hard-hitting, banjo-driven bangers to looping harp and three-part harmony arrangements. Released today (22 June), Snakeskin sees her continue to entrance listeners with her bold and adventurous sound. Written about leaving those who have wronged her behind, the track, soundwise, is a sumptuous and wild blend of Florence + The Machine, Woodkid, Nine Inch Nails and Tori Amos. It’s utterly spellbinding and is one of those tracks we can easily see being synced to Netflix/Amazon/HBO TV fantasy drama series. Snakeskin is taken from Lisa's forthcoming FOLK+ EP, and we can’t wait to hear it.
