With the Great Escape kicking off fully today, we highly recommend you catch Indian-born, London-based singer, songwriter and producer Rahul Prasad, aka Renao. Having eschewed a career as an Olympic badminton hopeful to create art, Reano went on to study music at university in Leeds and started to share demos and ideas on his Instagram and Soundcloud. Inspired by American youth and pop culture, Renao produces hazy guitar-led R&B influenced pop. In 2021, this seriously infectious debut cut went viral after a teaser campaign on TikTok generated 18k Spotify Pre-Saves. Since then, it has received editorial playlist support at Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer, championed by Jack Saunders on Radio 1, and gained tastemaker praise at the Line of Best Fit, Wonderland, Variance magazine and more. We reckon Renao has a sound and vibe perfect for a global fanbase and has it all to become one of the standout new artists of 2022. Renao appears at the AWAL showcase at the Komedia Basement (7.15pm) on Friday at TGE, which also includes RotD-featured acts Tamera, CMAT and Alfie Templeman.
