JESSICA
We say
Full of youthful energy and insanely catchy hooks, JESSICA is the debut offering from pop-punk trio The Tyne. Formed in 2019 by London-based Cooper Stout (bass) and North East-based Ryan Lofthouse (vocals), the pair recruited Josh James (guitar) in early 2020, but before they could start exploring this new chemistry, the world went into lockdown. The three 17 years olds decided that lockdown wouldn’t faze them and started to practice, write songs and get to know each other online through games and social media. Having built a following of over 400,000 followers on TikTok, the newcomers have released this energetic number that harks back to early noughties pop-punk of Blink 182 with echoes of Yungblud and Twenty One Pilots, all through a Gen Z filter. Recorded by Gethin Pearson (Charli XCX, KennyHoopla) and released last week, JESSICA has picked up praise from Upset Magazine, Distorted and Bring The Noise, among others. Plus, BBC Introducing Tees are a fan, having given them several spins. With an EP ready of material, they kicked off a six-date UK tour in London at the O2 Academy2 Islington last Sunday and will finish this Saturday at the Cluny in Newcastle. One to watch.
