if i wasn’t made for love
We say
néomí is the moniker for Surinamese/Dutch folk-pop singer-songwriter Neomi Speelman who writes authentic and sincere stories backed by dreamy soundscapes on which her delicate bewitching vocals sit. In 2020, she recorded her first singles with British engineer/producer Edd Hartwell (Tom Walker, Birdy, Tom Odell) and was invited to the UK to play her first shows abroad, and then the pandemic struck. Over the next eighteen months, néomí used the time to develop as a songwriter and add to her growing catalogue. This gorgeous ray of modern day folk through the songwriting lens of Ben Howard and Bon Iver is her debut release. if i wasn’t made for love effortlessly blends the choral prowess of The Staves and tonal originality of Phoebe Bridgers to create something beautiful. Deserving of playlist additions to folk and contextual playlists at streaming, the track would also be perfect for teen/drama TV syncs too. There is a lot to love about this initial offering from her néomí, making her one to keep tabs on.
