501
We say
Earlier this summer, we were lucky enough to hear an early preview of material from singer-songwriter Rachel Clark, who performs under the moniker of Mehalah Ray. Her collection of coming of age songs fulfilled in a frank, understated and honest tone with earworm melodies quickly marked her as a talent to keep tabs on. Her first two singles, Baby Blue and Just For You, picked up radio plays from Jo Whiley on Radio 2, Gemma Bradley on BBC Introducing at Radio 1, Tom Robinson at 6Music and BBC Introducing Cambridge. Plus, editorial support at Spotify with additions to their Fresh Finds Indie and Text Me Back playlists. Now back with this soaring indie-pop anthem - an ode to disillusioned youth and living through lockdowns – Mehalah delivers a gorgeous and enchanting single that is sure to see her gain more recognition. Produced by Nick Trepka (Emmy the Great) and Vraell with Joel from Far Caspian on drums, 501 is destined for mellow, indie-pop and new indie playlists across streaming services, and don’t be surprised if you see this gem pop up on new release programming too. An absolute delight. For fans of Billie Marten, Adrianne Lenker and Lucy Rose.
