Move
We say
Now, this hypnotic single is from north East artist Jodie Nicholson who we featured in our weekly Compass column this last July. Having recently been awarded the Help Musicians ‘Do It Differently’ and PRS Foundation ‘Women Make Music’ funding, Move is the first in a series of new releases that Jodie will be sharing over the coming months. Produced remotely during lockdown with Tim Bran (London Grammar, Birdy, Aurora), the track is an effortlessly cool alt-pop jammer, with hints of the electro-indie-pop leanings of The Japanese House, the emotive vocals of Aurora and the haunting synth vibes of Grimes. It’s gorgeous, perfect for the oncoming chilled out autumn evenings and for those mellow playlists. It’s currently Track of the Week on BBC Introducing Tees this week, and she is booked in to play a live session for them this Saturday. Plus, there is more tastemaker support to come from BBC Introducing North East and BT TV Music over the next week. With the release of her self-produced LP, Golden Hour, on vinyl earlier this year and support from Radio 2 (Jo Whiley), 6Music, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, it’s been a breakthrough year for Jodie, and we reckon, it’s not going to stop there either. One to watch.
