We say
Growing up in the Caribbean and Jersey, UK born singer-songwriter Sam Walwyn spent his formative years absorbing everything from Cuban Mambo to flamenco to pop. After travelling to Australia to study the right hand techniques of flamenco guitar, he returned to the UK to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and then moved to London in 2019. Over that time, he started to write his own material, a blend of indie-folk and alternative pop, while playing numerous performances across the country, supporting the likes of Gabrielle Aplin, Newton Faulkner and Tom Jones. In June, he dropped his debut track, For You, which after the release was added to Spotify UK’s Easy and Your Coffee Break editorial playlists, as well as named as BBC Introducing (Channel Islands) Track of the Week. He follows this up today (18 September), with this laidback and uplifting acoustic gem, reminiscent of Hozier, Ben Howard and early Bon Iver. Expect to see this pop up on mellow and acoustic contextual playlists over the next week or two. With a debut EP to come in 2021, Sam is a new talent to keep your eye on.
