HERO aka Rich

Just before the festive season truly kicked in last month South African multi-instrumentalist James Deacon dropped this impressive alternative pop banger. Exploring the age-old idea that you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family, HERO aka Rich is a frank and intimate track about the bonds of brotherhood, backed by a slickly-produced, banging beat that’s peppered by a blues-rooted guitar line. The single follows the release of his debut EP The Calling, featuring previous RotD’s Not Givin’ Up and Mamma, that has seen the 22 year old singer-songwriter gain playlist inclusions across Apple Music and Spotify, online features with the likes of Clash, Indie Shuffle, Earmilk, and Born Music, plus a sync with HBO too. At home in his native South Africa, the track has received extensive plays across major stations 5FM and 94.7, plus playlist support from Apple Music. Unfortunately, no news yet on when he is to play his first show in London, but for those of you attending MusExpo in LA later this year, you can catch him performing there.
