Today’s Ones To Watch 2020 is the talented Hackney-based singer, songwriter and producer Hamzaa. It’s been something of a momentous 2019 for the 20 year old artist. Her honest and modernistic take on classic soul has seen her play two sold-out headline shows at the Scala and Omeara in London, performed at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and most recently supported Mahalia on a UK tour. Along the way, she has received tastemaker praise for her beautiful Phases EP from the likes of Complex, Trench, Gal-Dem, the Times, and the Evening Standard, while also being touted as a One To Watch by Amazon Music and the Guardian, tipped by 1Xtra and Capital Xtra, and gained new fans in Stormzy and Jorja Smith. It’s easy to see why, when you have tracks like this brooding and powerfully emotive soul gem in your locker. With a knack for writing heartbreakingly personal odes, doused in lashing of gorgeous, soulful production, Hamzaa is set to see her star rise further in 2020.
