Stay Away
We say
We’re seriously impressed with this gorgeously smooth neo-soul jammer from London vocalist Naomi Banks. Previously a backing singer for Laura Mvula and Lianne La Havas, she decided to focus on her own music last year and performed her first solo live show in London at the Servant’s Jazz Quarters in December. Her music has found admirers in tastemakers such as Clash, Music Crowns, London In Stereo and Gay Times, while her single Enough was BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week on Radio 1. Further radio support has come from Phil Taggart (R1), Robert Elms (BBC London), Janice Long (BBC London), Jess Iszatt (BBC Introducing London), Harriet Rose (Fubar), and Jaguar Bingham (BBC Introducing Hot List). She dropped this refined and sensual laidback gem last week ahead of her sold-out headline show at Laylow in London, having already shared the stage with Celeste and Rachel Chinouriri this year. Stay Away is, quite simply, a dose of pure, soulful catharsis, from a compelling songwriter who is quickly showing why she is one of the new stars of the burgeoning neo-soul jazz scene.
