Grabbing your attention right from the start with its stuttering beats and hypnotic groove is this soulful number from London-based artist MEI. We first featured her in our weekly newsletter Compass section back in 2017 and have been keeping tabs ever since on this talented artist. Earlier this year she released her first EP No Bad Days, inspired by Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and has since gained numerous tastemaker praise. Clash, Earmilk, CMU, Cool Hunting and the Line of Best Fit are all fans, along with radio support from Tom Robinson (6 Music), BBC Introducing, Worldwide FM and Reprezent radio. Produced and co-written with Danio Forni Jr (Husky Loops) and Joy Anonymous, I’m Certain is the lead track from her second seasonal project, the autumnal series No Dim Lights. Blessed with glitchy future electronics and a melodious groove, the track has already attracted attention from the likes of Pop Matters, the Line of Best Fit, and Lock Magazine. A recipient of the Help Musicians UK Do It Differently fund, MEI has also been featured on the FIFA 19 soundtrack alongside Husky Loops and Count Counsellor. She will be performing at the Social on 28 November supporting Joy Anonymous & K4mo, so mark this down in your diaries.
