Getting Late ft Louis VI
We say
Influenced by the likes of J-Dilla, D’Angelo and Hiatus Kaiyote, Brighton-based four-piece Yakul effortlessly marries introspective and emotive lyrics with deep grooves and jazz infused progressions in their debut EP Getting Late. Since its release at the start of the month, tracks from the EP have picked up specialist radio support and plays from the likes of Gilles Peterson (6Music), Jamz Supernova (1Xtra) and KCRW in LA, as well as playlist spots at Spotify (Jazz UK, Soultronica) and Deezer (Soul to Chill). This gorgeously sexy after-midnight number, with its ambient synths and breezy textures and featuring rapper Louis VI, make this one of the finest neo-soul tracks we have heard this year. Having built a growing reputation on the live circuit, you can catch James Berkeley (vocals and keys), Tom Caldwell Nichols (bass), Sam Hughes (drums) and Leo Utton (guitar) at Ronnie Scott’s this Friday (16 August) supporting Citrus Sun. Cool grooves for those late night moves.
