Mise Eire
We say
Time for something slightly different today with this beautiful rendition of Mise Éire - a poem by Padraig Pearse and later set to the music of composer Patrick Cassidy - by 21 year old singer Sibéal from County Meath, Ireland. Sung in the traditional sean-nós vocal style, the track showcases Sibéal’s beautifully pure and crystalline voice that first captured Ireland back in 2016 when she performed this live as a 17 year old school student for the 1916 Rising Centenary Commemorations, which was broadcast on national TV and viewed by over 3m viewers. Since then she has released a live EP from Abbey Road featuring a cover of Human by Rag’n’Bone Man, sung for the Pope and last Friday dropped her self-titled debut album. Currently, no.3 in the Irish iTunes album charts and heading towards a Top 10 debut in the official album charts, the album’s blend of traditional and contemporary songs further highlights her remarkable vocal and one that, we reckon, has huge crossover potential in the future. Tastemaker support has come from the Irish Times, Sunday Times and Irish Independent. Quite simply, an extraordinary vocal talent and one to watch.
