Past Tense
We say
This strikingly beautiful and shimmering dose of the new wave-pop is from emerging Glaswegian band Walt Disco. With their love of 80s pop apparent from the opening synth line, Past Tense is a sumptuous blend of Cure-esque guitar melodies mixed with the darkness of Sisters of Mercy and the Bowie-like vocals from frontman James Potter. It’s a gorgeous affair, grabbing your attention straight away and if you listen carefully, there is even a touch of Simple Minds too. Recorded at Chemical Underground’s (Mogwai, Arab Strap) studio and released via Los Angles-based singles label IHC 1NFINITY, the track has already picked up online support from the Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine and Breaking More Waves. Accompanying the cinematic song is a spectacular video from the label’s production studio IHEARTCOMIX, which acts as a tribute to actor/comedian Gian Molina who stars in the video. It’s a touching and must-see video, watch here. Having already had support across the board from The Sunday Times, Paste, Wonderland, Dork, Clash as well as Radio 1 and Radio X for previous releases, we reckon this spell-bounding track is set to garner them many more new fans on both sides of the Atlantic. Just marvellous.
