Me Vs. The Volcano
We say
Back in November, we openly gushed about the hauntingly beautiful and cinematic track Darkness by rising duo Maven Grace. Their Twin Peaks-esque atmospherics, lush synth melodies and ethereal vocals, quite simply, blew us away, and we weren’t the only ones with Bryan Ferry having also been impressed by the duo after watching them at Standon Calling last year. He invited them to record their debut album at his Avonmore Studio in west London where this gorgeous and defiant song was recorded. Drawing heavily on the recent upheaval in singer Mary Douglas-Home’s own life, the lyrics draw on ideas of heartbreak, divorce and self-belief, backed by their unique otherworldliness soundscapes. With fans at Clash, Louder Than War, and Spotify, the duo have recently signed with ITB agency and will return to play Standon Calling this Saturday on the Independent’s stage.
