Drenched in soulful tones and classic R&B vibes, this glorious track from rising Somali-Canadian singer-songwriter Amaal is taken from her debut EP, Black Dove, released last Friday (12 July). Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Amaal emigrated with her large traditional Muslim family to Toronto when she was young and began singing at the age of 16. She released her first singles aged 20 and to date, her releases, including­ Not What I Thought and Coming and Going, have amassed over 2m streams and received praise from the likes of the Fader, Nylon, Earmilk, i-D, the Line of Best Fit and the Independent. Radio support has previously come from Jamz Supernova at BBC 1Xtra, who interviewed Amaal on her show on Tuesday. Featuring on Canada's Spotify New Music Friday and Apple Music's Best of the Week playlist in the UK and Canada, So What is the perfect blend of smooth grooves, R&B licks and sultry vocals, making this one of our favourite R&B jams of this year.
