Focus
We say
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest and Missy Elliott, Birmingham rapper Lady Sanity has been steadily building a strong reputation for her hard-hitting flow and blend of grime, ‘90s hip hop and jazz influences. Her previous releases, including debut mixtape Construction, garnered radio support from the likes of Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music and BBC Introducing West Midlands, as well as tastemaker praise from the likes of Clash and Counteract. Her latest release, Focus, produced by Lowpass Luke, sees Sanity tackle the social and personal pressures of being an upcoming rapper over a solemn and mellow production, which only amplifies the weight of her words. With a 2017 GRM Daily Get Rated Award and Birmingham Music Award for Best Solo Female Artist 2018 already behind her, she was named a Help Musician’s UK’s ‘Do It Differently’ awardee earlier this year, and performed at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia. Lady Sanity was also recently announced as a finalist of Festival Republic and PRS Foundation’s ReBalance scheme, a pioneering programme that has seen hundreds of nominations across 4 rounds, resulting in 13 finalists since its launch in 2017, and she is set to perform at this year’s Wireless Festival. This Friday (8 March) she will be performing at the WOW Festival in London. Free-flowing and thoughtful lyricism from a talented emerging rapper.
