Blue Valentine
We say
Irish artist Áine (pronounced awn-yah), hailing from the small county of Cavan in southern Ireland, was first spotted by Mark Cooper, BBC’s Head of Music, at Glastonbury 2016. Impressed with her performance on the pub stage, he invited her to play on the BBC’s coverage of the festival. Off the back of this, she met her manager and signed to Warner at the end of 2017. Since then she has worked with a slew of high profile artists and songwriters, including the Grammy-nominated producer and Ed Sheeran collaborator Will Hicks and Jonathan Quarmby (Primal Scream). Last week (8 February) she dropped her debut EP with this sultry and beautiful pop ode as the title track. Written with Sam Dixon (Adele, Sia), Blue Valentine is a sumptuously produced single that effortlessly showcases her breathtaking voice over a delicate piano melody, soft percussion and string arrangements. Primed for radio airplay and mellow playlists, the track featured on Spotify UK’s New Music Friday playlist and has so far picked up tastemaker support from the likes of the Independent, HotPress and Wonky Sensitive. You can watch the accompanying Noel Paul (Lily Allen, Bat For Lashes) directed video here, which landed today for Valentine’s Day. So sit back and indulge in the gorgeous sound of Áine.
